Mattresses of legendary repute

STAPLES produces boxspring mattresses of legendary reputation. The traditional British manufactory relies consistently on working with natural materials of the highest grade and makes mattresses that are true masterpieces.

STAPLES owes its reputation to the English court: in 1915 King George V fell from his horse while inspecting his troops. On medical advice he chose a bed by STAPLES so that he could find sleep despite the pain. The bed did him so much good that he issued a royal recommendation and appointed the company purveyor to the court.

Craftsmanship

Set by hand in calico pockets

The particular quality of a STAPLES mattress lies in the working of the pocket spring units. The pocket springs are carefully encased by hand in breathable calico pockets and joined with tear-resistant linen thread to form a honeycomb-like spring layer.

This honeycomb-shaped layer forms the resilient core of the mattress and provides precise, pinpoint support over many years.

Natural materials

Exquisite fillings from nature

The upper and lower sides of the spring unit are covered with a select choice of natural upholstery fillings: fine mohair, noble cashmere and delicate merino, together with combed horsehair and precious silk. Thanks to their thermal properties, these materials provide the best possible sleeping climate.

The spring unit and the filling are covered with supple silk satin, sewn by hand and hand-tufted with long needles – secured on the upper side with textile rosettes. In this way every mattress keeps its shape for years. The filling materials come from organically managed British farms, among them Duchy Home Farm in Cornwall.
